Having been scarred by previous building experiences, our journey with Steve and Penny Chapman has completely restored our faith. From the design brief to the finishing touches we have nothing but admiration and praise for the processes and skills Steve and his team brought to the project.

With extensive timber working and craftsman experience myself, and with a heightened appreciation for quality, I can vouch unequivocally that Steve’s eye for detail at all stages of the build is very finely tuned. And this includes all those details which are hidden behind the plaster! Apart from the craftsmanship he expects from his team of tradesman, he has excellent project management skills, all of which contributes to a smooth and worry free transition from vision to reality.

We now live in a home that we appreciate as a “good build” which we hasten to point out is a serious under-statement in the classic Australian tradition! Our sincerest appreciation to Steve, Penny and Team Chapman. Very well done indeed.

We made some inquiries around Barwon Heads and Steve's name was mentioned as a quality builder with a hands-on approach. We went and had a look at some of the houses he had built, and we were more than impressed with the standard, quality and design. The rest is history!

We contracted Steve and Penny to build our 'final resting place'. It was completed on time and on budget. Steve managed the interaction with the house designer and of course dealt with permits and insurance. We trusted Steve and Penny to the extent of not obtaining another quote.

Renovating a 80+ year old beach cottage always comes with surprises and a need to be conscious of its history. Steve and his team worked tirelessly with us to modernise the cottage, uncover and rectify the “hidden” challenges while at the same restoring the historic integrity of the building.

The workmanship and quality was high and the beach house is now ready for the next 100 years of its life.

It was by chance that we met Steve in the street that he eventually built our home. Don't let his lay back nature fool you. He is a very meticulous builder. Just when you think that something may not be up to scratch, he has already addressed and made good. The whole experience from start to finish was a total of no fuss. Every request we had in any alterations however big or small right from the start to the very end was no problem at all.

Our home was started at the agreed date and hand over was a few weeks early than agreed upon.

In 2011 we purchased a block of land in the new estate at Barwon Heads named Rivers Edge. We then made the big decision to build and move permanently to Barwon Heads from Ballarat.

The next major decision was to select a builder as we had no knowledge of builders at Barwon Heads. We thought of major national building companies but decided we wanted something more individualised where we could deal face to face with the builder.

We looked around Barwon Heads at a number of recently constructed houses and eventually decided we liked the houses built by local builder Steve Chapman. We had several meetings with Steve which assisted us in drawing up house pans. Steve commenced the project on schedule and in fact the whole completion went to plan and time.

We were very impressed with the quality of the work, the skills of the tradesmen, the on site hands on management of Steve and the approachable and friendliness of his team. Steve took no short cuts and provided the very hights quality materials and fittings in the construction of our house.

As we worked through the project we made several adjustments and improvements often instigated by Steve himself. These were no trouble.

The end result was a house we could not be happier with. We therefore have every confidence in recommending Steve Chapman to anyone planning to build.

When Steve asked me if I could provide a testimonial for the Homes by Chapman website it was an simple, easy "Yes" because I have for the last three years been giving verbal testimonial to any person considering building or altering their home.

When I asked Steve to quote my brand new home he seemed to be the only builder who listened because his quote was the only one that came close to what I'd requested. When it came to completion it came within a couple of days of my requested time.

The end result is that I have an amazing home: a home that many people comment on and one that I continue to enjoy as much as the day that I moved in. Along the way Steve looked at ways to improve on the design and gave advice on how I could save a little bit here to spend a little more there. All in the building experience with Homes by Chapman could not have been easier or more enjoyable.

After my first meeting with Steve when I explored some initial ideas about building a home in Barwon Heads, I felt immediately at ease with his straightforward, honest and helpful assessment of my needs.

The next step involved his wife Penny who assisted with initial design features including options about the house’s orientation on the block and my specific preferences about how I wanted the house to function, all within a tight budget. Both were exceptionally helpful, and I realised that I was in very good hands! As I had never built a house before I needed to be able to trust my builder implicitly.

Throughout construction, Steve was meticulous in all aspects and my trust was well placed; I am delighted at the finished product. I have appreciated his attention to detail and the pride he has shown in the quality of his work. He has offered helpful suggestions along the way and has kept me well informed on every stage of its development. In determining the right builder for our new home, we wanted someone we could trust, was honest in his approach and advice and produced a high-quality result within a given budget.
